British Government takes first step towards Armenian Genocide recognition - Press release from CRAG regarding Holocaust Memorial Day, 28 Jan 2002
Send an e-mail to Alex Mosson, who is Lord Provost of Glasgow, thanking him for including reference to the Armenian genocide in his speech at the Holocaust Memorial Event in Glasgow.
You can chose to copy and paste the text provided below, though a personalised thank you would be more appreciated.
The commemoration in Glasgow, was particularly important as it was the main event in Scotland, and the Scottish Executive provided support and guidance to Glasgow council regarding the commemoration, the event was also attended by some of the most senior politicians in Scotland.
Dear Alex Mosson, Lord Provost of Glasgow.
I am writing to thank you for including a reference to the Armenian genocide in your speech at the Glasgow Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration. Unfortunately, the Armenian genocide has become a case study in genocide denial. The Turkish government spends millions of dollars every year, downplaying, dismissing and denying the genocidal nature of the WWI genocide.
You have proved that principles do come before power on some matters, and that issues of such importance will not be open to revisionism or denial, and I thank you for that. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you to convey our appreciation to Glasgow Councils for producing such a professional Holocaust Memorial Day Website, which will serve as a beacon to other authorities throughout the UK, in the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day 2003.
Yours sincerely
